Emetophobia treatment - Treatment for the Fear of Sick (also, fear of vomit) at the Huddersfield and Manchester Hypnotherapy Clinic

Huddersfield Hypnotherapy Clinic can help with emetophobia - the fear of being sick - the fear of vomit

Emetophobia (sometimes known as emetephobia) is one of the most common phobias that people experience and is one of the ten most common in the World. If you are emetophobic, the chances are that one of your friends or someone at your workplace also suffers from this phobia.

Emetophobia is sometimes known as emetephobia (a misspelling), phagaphobia or vomitaphobia and generally is an intense fear of sick, specifically 'being sick' or the subject matter of sick.

Emetophobia commonly leads to life having to be controlled in order to avoid the potential of being sick

Emetophobia is based on the subject matter of vomit. Someone suffering from this phobia may experience some or all of the following symptoms:

  • being very hygienic.
  • not eating out for fear of vomiting in public.
  • eating only foods that the sufferer knows are 'safe'.
  • fear of reading words or seeing images associated with vomit.
  • a feeling of panic when anything to do with vomit is experienced.
  • not eating healthy amounts of foods (for fear of being sick).
  • fear of the smell of sick.
  • in women, a fear of pregnancy (for fear of morning sickness).
  • difficulty dealing with their child's illness.
  • avoidance of medical practices or other places where vomit may be present.
  • finding it difficult or impossible to watch TV programmes like Casualty.

Emetophobia can lead to obsessional behaviors such as constant worry about hygiene because of an identification of dirt and germs being associated with being sick, and this can lead for example to the avoidance of public toilets and as a result, people suffering from emetophobia may avoid eating out at restaurants, going to the cinema and other such leisurely activities.

Emetophobia is often accompanied by other fears

People who suffer from emetophobia may have developed a number of fears as a result of the primary phobia and these include the fear of gagging, fear of being trapped under water, fear of germs (such as fear of hospitals, public toilets)

Overcoming emetophobia - an effective treatment is available

I have successfully treated many clients who came to see me suffering from emetophobia. It has become very clear that many other therapists and psychologists do not actually understand this condition and do not offer a treatment that offers permanent relief - at best strategies to cope with emetophobia are taught but this by no means allows the emetophobic to be truly free of their symptoms, it simply teaches them coping mechanisms to make life a bit more manageable.

Don't worry - there IS an effective and permanent treatment for emetophobia

Pure hypnoanalysis is very different from all other therapies available including conventional hypnotherapy (suggestion therapy), CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming) and Psychiatry, in that it addresses the fact that there is a cause to the emetophobia.

You were not born with emetophobia

Pure hypnoanalysis allows for a permanent release of the bottled up emotions that are causing the emetophobia. No other therapy available aims to achieve this and this is why other therapies do not offer the opportunity for absolutely freedom from the symptoms of emetophobia.
