Frequently Asked Questions

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a very natural state of mind that is commonly experienced by all people of all ages. This state of mind is experienced as anything from a mild to deep state of relaxation. It can be experienced and enjoyed by all people of all ages and is a state of mind where things that previously seemed impossible, become possible.

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is the application of hypnosis in order to assist people to live happier and fuller lives. Hypnotherapy can be used to:

  • cure people of phobias/fears.
  • enable people to begin doing things they want to do (e.g., motivation/weight loss) .
  • enable people to stop doing things they do not want to do (e.g., bad habits).
  • permanently release people from ongoing feelings of anxiety and stress.

Should I have suggestion therapy or hypnoanalytical therapy?

Suggestion therapy and hypnoanalytical therapy are very similar in that they both use hypnosis as a tool to achieve the aims of each therapy, this however is where similarity ends. Suggestion therapy uses hypnosis to change a belief system in a way that is more beneficial for the client. For example, a client who smokes, believes he/she is addicted to smoking. If we change that belief system, the client immediately becomed a non-smoker. Hypnoanalytical therapy however does not change a belief system, it creates a space for the client to discover the causes of his/her anxiety and in doing so, allows for the permament release of these feelings and emotions. Suggestion therapy will often only take a single 1 hour session, whereas hypnoanalytical therapy will take 6 to 8 sessions (of 1 hour/week). Hypnoanalytical therapy is the best form of therapy in the world for permanently releasing this locked up anxiety and therefore permanently curing symptoms that were caused by that anxiety - it really has to be experienced to be believed - this form of therapy often completely transforms clients lives for the better! You are welcome to contact me for a no obligation free consultation so that we may discuss you needs and I can advise what form of therapy would be most suitable.

How confidential is a therapy session?

As a hypnotherapist practicing hypnoanalytical therapy, a sense of trust and rapport are crucial in order for therapy to be optimal and efficient. Confidentiality is 100% assured. I am a member of the International Association of Hypno-analysts, whose code of conduct ensures absolute confidentiality for clients. This confidentiality may only be breached in potentially life-threatening situations.

Does it matter which therapist I choose?

It goes without saying that all therapists are not created equal. Different schools of hypnotherapy exist and training requirements vary from organisation to organisation. To ensure that you receive a professional service any therapist you choose should be qualified and a member of a respected organisation and adhere to an ethical code of conduct.

How long do therapy sessions take?

Each session lasts from about 45 minutes to 1 hour. Occasionally a session may last a little beyond longer (at no extra charge).

Can a bring a friend/spouse/partner along with me?

You are welcome to bring whoever you chose but unless you are a minor only you will be permitted to stay during the actual therapy session and whoever you have come with must wait in our waiting room. This is to ensure you have the best conditions to experience total relaxation.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

Yes, anyone can be hypnotised.

What does hypnosis feel like?

Hypnosis feels like a deep state of relaxation, rather like commonly experienced when day dreaming of dozing off to sleep.

Will I feel different after being hypnotised?

You will feel like you have been in a state of relaxation, so initially you may feel slightly sleepy. This will soon pass after a few minutes and you'll be ready to get on with your day.

Will I be out of control when I'm in a hypnotic state?

Absolutely not. This perception often comes from people who have been to stage hypnotism shows and people on stage can often give the impression that they are 'out of control' and completely under the 'power' of the hypnotist. Real hypnosis, thankfully, couldn't be further from this.

What happens in a stage hypnosis show is not in fact pure hypnosis. There are many more factors involved in stage hypnosis (such as subjects wanting to perform) than are first obvious to the observer. At no point in a session with me will you be out of control in anyway. I use hypnosis in a highly professional manner to assist you in achieving whatever you want to achieve, or to permanently release bottled up feelings and anxiety so that you can live a fuller, freer, and happier life.

Will I remember everything?

Yes, you will remember everything that goes on when you have suggestion of hypnoanalytical therapy with me.

Will I be able to drive my car when the session has finished?

Yes, once the session has finished we may have just a brief chat to allow yourself to fully come back from your relaxing state. You will then be absolutely fine to get on with your day and be capable of performing whatever tasks you need to get on with.

Do you see children at your clinic?

Yes, children respond extremely well to hypnotherapy. We use a special technique known as the Blowaway Technique which is particularly suited to help children. Children who receive therapy from me must be accompanied by a parent/guardian during the session - indeed, I often ask the parent/guardian to join in with the therapy so that all persons present can enjoy the state of relaxation.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes. All my clients receive a completely free, no obligation consulation which usually lasts around 30-40 minutes. This allows us to discuss what problems you have and allows me to inform you of how I am able to help you. (This consultation is not normally required for smoking cessation).

How much do sessions cost?

This depends on the nature of the session. Our current fees are listed here.

What times are you open?

Can I park my car near your clinic?
